1. FC Union Berlin’s Max Kruse and Cedric Teuchert will represent Germany at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The German FA coach Stefan Kuntz announced the squad to head to Japan this morning.

Kruse has represented Germany 14 times at full national team level, while Teuchert has eight U21 caps and eight U21 goals to his name.

A day after the Opening Ceremony, the Olympic squad will compete for gold against Brazil (22.07, 13:30), Saudi Arabia (25.07, 13:30) and the Ivory Coast (28.07, 10:00). The first two teams of each group will go into the quarterfinals. The gold medal match is scheduled for August 7 in Yokohama.

“I’m delighted about the nomination and the trust. To be called up to such a tournament is something special and I’m excited to receive the support of Union Berlin to take part,” said Cedric Teuchert. “As already said, to take part in the Olympic Games is the crown on my career until now. To play with the German national team shirt in this tournament is an honour for me and I’m delighted to be nominated and receive the trust of Stefan Kuntz,” added Max Kruse.

Kruse and Teuchert will be unavailable for the first round of the DFB Pokal against Türkgücü München.
