1. FC Union Berlin’s Bundesliga squad will be without midfielder Aïssa Laïdouni for the first few weeks of the new calendar year. The midfielder will be representing Tunisia at the 34th Africa Cup of Nations and will therefore be absent for at least the league fixtures matches against SC Freiburg, 1. FSV Mainz 05 and FC Bayern München.

Jalel Kadri, national coach of the North African side, has named Laïdouni in his tournament squad and is hoping the 27-year-old will play a large part in a second title for the Eagles of Carthage. Tunisia’s only previous success at the AFCON came when they hosted the tournament in 2004.

Before Tunisia start the tournament against Namibia in mid-January, however, there are still two preparation matches on the programme: against Mauritania (06.01.24) and the island state of Cape Verde (10.01.24) to put the finishing touches to the tournament.

Tunisia will face Namibia, Mali and South Africa in Group E:

  • Tunisia vs. Namibia
  • Tuesday | 16.01.2024 | Korhogo
  • Tunisia vs. Mail
  • Saturday | 20.01.2024 | Korhogo
  • South Africa vs. Tunisia
  • Wednesday | 24.01.2024 | Korhogo

The final of the tournament will take place on 11.02.2024 in Abidjan.
