Matchday 3 at UEFA EURO 2024 pitted Germany and VfB stars Maxi Mittelstädt, Chris Führich, Waldemar Anton and Deniz Undav against Switzerland and club-mate Leonidas Stergiou in the last of the Group A fixtures.

The Swiss took the lead through Dan Ndoye in the 28th minute, but Germany equalised in the second minute of stoppage time thanks to Niclas Füllkrug’s header. Mittelstädt was the only VfB player to take to the pitch, making his third start of the tournament before being substituted off in the 61st minute.

The result means Germany go through to the last 16 as group winners on seven points, with Switzerland also in the knockout rounds as runners-up. Both teams will be in action again on Saturday.

Germany will go up against the second-placed team from Group C, which comprises England, Denmark, Slovenia and Serbia. The Swiss, meanwhile, will play the Group B runners-up. Possible opponents are Italy, Albania and Croatia.
