Twelve talented young footballers from the Seoul region, along with their coaches and supervisors, recently enjoyed a six-day visit to VfB Stuttgart. The 11 and 12-year-old children were selected for the trip to Germany, which was held in association with Porsche Korea, at two scouting events in the Seoul area in April and October.
The group’s varied schedule included a sightseeing tour of the city of Stuttgart, a visit to the Porsche Museum, the Bundesliga home match against Eintracht Frankfurt at the MHP Arena, a training session with VfB’s Under-12 side and performance comparisons with Stuttgarter Kickers, SC Freiburg and VfB. The trip was a win-win situation, with VfB’s U12s benefiting from the cultural exchange and the experience of competing against a team from another footballing nation, while the group from Korea was able to learn all about a new culture and witness the goings-on at a Bundesliga club at first hand. VfB has already organised camps in South Korea next year in order to scout up-and-coming youngsters.
