VfB were on fire in the first half as they took the game to Bayern, but they missed good chances through Chris Führich and Serhou Guirassy, who had an effort cleared off the line by Eric Dier (28′).

Stergiou breaks the deadlock

Leonidas Stergiou did find the back of the net moments later, however, playing a one-two with Deniz Undav before lifting a brilliant effort over Manuel Neuer to put VfB in front (29′). Bayern were back on level terms just eight minutes later, though, Harry Kane converting from the penalty spot to leave the game all square at the interval.

Brilliant second half

Sebastian Hoeneß’s side remained on top after the break, and got their reward in the closing stages. Wooyeong Jeong got on the end of Silas’ superb cross to head the boys from Cannstatt back in front in the 83rd minute, and Silas himself crowned a dominant team display with a composed effort in stoppage time (90’+3) from Serhou Guirassy’s dogged assist.

83′: Silas delivers a cross from the right to the back post, where Jeong heads home to spark wild celebrations.
