Borna Sosa is leaving VfB to join Ajax Amsterdam. The 25-year-old Croat had been with the club for five years, making him the longest-serving player in the squad. During his time in Stuttgart, Sosa made 93 Bundesliga appearances (three goals), along with another eight in the cup (one goal) and 12 in Bundesliga 2 (one goal).

“Borna Sosa represented VfB Stuttgart in Bundesliga 1 and 2 over 100 times and is one of the people who helped to shape the club over recent years,” said VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth. “He is and always has been one of the players that the many of our fans identify with most, and while he was with the club, he went on to establish himself as a regular in the Croatia team.

“In recent months, Borna expressed his wish for a move to us on a number of occasions and is now moving on after five years. In sporting terms, agreeing to his request was a tough decision for us, but one that we ended up making in light of Borna’s recent service to VfB Stuttgart. We wish him all the very best for the future.”

“I had five wonderful years here at VfB that I will never forget,” said Sosa. “I have so many incredible memories from this period, and I’m really happy that I got to play for such a great club. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, and I’d like to thank all of the fantastic fans who really are among the best in the Bundesliga. I’d like to wish VfB and their fans all the best for the future.”

VfB would like to thank Borna Sosa for all of his highlights in a VfB jersey!
