On Thursday afternoon, Sebastian Hoeneß and his coaching staff were back on the training pitch with the first team in Bad Cannstatt. And while the VfB boss “very much enjoyed” the summer break with his family, he is also itching to get back to work ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

“As I was travelling from Munich to Stuttgart, I was really happy that it’s starting up again now,” Hoeneß said. “We’re only focusing on ourselves and want to lay the foundations for a successful season. It’ll be exciting as we’ve got a couple of really good friendly games and training camps on the agenda. I’m looking forward to our preparations.”

The coach is placing particular emphasis on togetherness, team spirit and a sense of solidarity – values that helped the team stay in the Bundesliga at the end of last season.

“Football is a team sport,” Hoeneß continued. “We have to stick closely together as a team and as a club, and with the fans behind us we can eke out another couple of percentage points. We’re hoping that more positive times are ahead of us, but it’s nevertheless still important that we stay humble and ambitious. Hard work and team work will be decisive.”
