“Bayern deserved to win”

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “At the end of the day, we recognise that Bayern deserved to win. We wanted to escape Bayern’s intensive, man-to-man pressing and create chances of our own. It’s a shame we weren’t able to make the most of our clear-cut chance early in the second half, and that we fell behind almost straight away after that. Bayern played superbly in a lot of situations after that. Even though we’ve got another game coming up on Tuesday, we can’t start preparing for that without analysing this one. We’ll do that in detail and then go for the win in our next match.”

Deniz Undav: “Bayern were better in all areas today, in their counter-pressing and when they had the ball – especially in the second half. But we had chances of our own, too. If we’d taken advantage of them, the match could have panned out differently. But if you don’t do so, then Bayern are good enough to win big at home this season. They deserved to win by such a big margin. Now we need to dust ourselves off and go again on Tuesday.”

Alexander Nübel: “We played well in the first half. It was evenly balanced and we hardly allowed them to have a shot at goal. They overpowered us in the second half, though. After they opened the scoring, we didn’t create any more chances.”
