Hiroki Ito moved to VfB from Japanese second-tier side Jubilo Iwata in summer 2021 and soon became a cornerstone of the first team. The defensive specialist was subsequently called up to the senior Japan national team in June 2022, earning 19 caps and scoring one goal to date. Ito made 97 competitive appearances for VfB, providing two goals and five assists.

I’m very grateful to the club management, the coaches, my team-mates and of course the fans. It’s not easy for me to say goodbye, but at the same time I’m looking forward to a new challenge.
