Serhou Guirassy registered 28 goals in as many Bundesliga appearances in 2023/24, including hat-tricks in 3-1 victories at Mainz and against Wolfsburg. The Guinean, who also scored twice on five occasions, surpassed Mario Gomez’s previous VfB record of 24 goals during the 2008/09 campaign, while only Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane (36) found the net more often this season.

The Bundesliga’s top two goalscorers also occupy first and second place in the European Golden Shoe rankings. Guirassy finished behind Kane but ahead of the likes of Kylian Mbappé, who scored 27 league goals for Paris Saint-Germain, and Erling Haaland, who also found the net 27 times for Manchester City.
