Sebastian Hoeneß’ side will go up against recently promoted Bundesliga 2 outfit SC Preußen Münster in the first round of the DFB Cup.
The first-round fixtures will take place between 16-19 August. However, as VfB will play against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Supercup on 17 August, the team’s cup game will be rescheduled for 27 or 28 August.
VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth: “We’ve shown some good performances in the DFB Cup in recent seasons, and have experienced some emotional times together with our fans. We want to build on that in the coming season and stay in the competition for as long as possible. As the top-flight side we’re obviously favourites against Preußen Münster, but we’re aware it’ll be a very tough task against a highly motivated and confident Bundesliga 2 team. It won’t be a stroll in the park.”
