Among the many off-pitch appointments the VfB players have during the season, one date in their diaries is always circled with a big heart: the annual visit to the Tannheim after-care clinic. The facility gives strength and hope to chronically ill children and their families, and VfB’s association with the clinic in the Black Forest is far more than just a project; it has always been an emotional commitment. Welcoming friends There was a great sense of excitement in Tannheim when the team bus, honking its horn, arrived at the entrance to the clinic with first-team members and club representatives on board.

They were made to feel right at home with a warm welcome from the clinic staff and patients. After having lunch together, there was – as tradition dictates – an autograph session. Furthermore, the VfB Foundation took along plenty of white-and-red gifts, Fritzle provided the entertainment and made the children laugh, while the players took their time posing for photos and having chats.

VfB CEO Alexander Wehrle made a point of being there in person again this year: “The work done at the after-care clinic and its important commitment to the children, youngsters and their entire families, is outstanding. This special atmosphere is always tangible and inspiring – just like the bond with VfB. Tannheim can always count on us and we are proud to be a part of it.”
