From tackling drills to obstacle courses and practice matches, the morning session on day two of VfB’s training camp in Neukirchen was an eventful one. Not that Borna Sosa, who joined the rest of his team-mates on Monday, was complaining. “It’s always a good feeling to get back to the lads,” said the left-footer. “I’ve been on holiday for four weeks and really want to play football. I’m looking forward to the training camp.”

The Croatia international was able to recharge his batteries back in his home country over the past few weeks. “It’s always a special feeling to be in Croatia,” he told VfB-TV. “I spent a lot of time with my family, my girlfriend and my mates. I was in Zagreb for a couple of days and spent the rest of the holiday in the Croatian islands. I’m really well rested and also had some good sessions in Croatia with my personal trainer. I feel fit.”

Sosa is determined to avoid playing for points near the foot of the table in the coming campaign. “It’s important that we hit the ground running this year,” said VfB’s number 24. “Every point is important in the Bundesliga and every point counts. We don’t want to be fighting relegation this season but rather pick up as many points between now and the winter break as possible.”
