Xavi, Forsberg and Company: All of RB Leipzig’s Number 10

There is a special importance surrounding the number 10 in football. Many great attacking players and influential playmakers have worn this number. Many important games have been decided by “number 10s”.

As of this season, Xavi will be wearing the number 10 for the Red Bulls. “It’s a great honor to be able to wear the number 10. I will do everything I can to do justice to this number.”

Xavi already had a successful start with the number 10: In the DFB Pokal first round win against Rot-Weiss Essen, the Dutch international contributed a goal and the assist to Antonio Nusa’s dream debut.

 Emil Forsberg – 2015/16 until 2023

After arriving in January 2015 from the Swedish First Division club Malmö FF, Emil Forsberg was initially given the number 12. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, when Ante Rebic joined Serie A’s Hellas Verona, he took over the number 10.

During his stint as number 10, Emil became an RBL legend and experienced many milestones first hand. From the promotion to the Bundesliga, the first Champions League game to the DFB Pokal victories in 2022 and 2023 in Berlin. Emil has been playing for the New York Red Bulls since January, 2024.

Ante Rebic – 2014/15

The Croatian came to Leipzig from AC Florence in the summer of 2013 for a year’s loan to the then Bundesliga 2 club. After one season with the Red Bulls, the striker returned to Italy.

Rebic also played for Eintracht Frankfurt, AC Milan and most recently Besiktas. Ante Rebic is currently not under contract with any club.

Thiago Rockenbach – 2011 bis 2013/14

The Brazilian shaped the Red Bulls’ game from January 2011. In his second year at RBL, the midfielder was promoted to the 3rd division with us. In 2014 he moved on to Berlin, where Thiago ended his career in 2021.

Timo Rost – 2010/11 bis 2011/2012

The first player to wear the number 10 at RB Leipzig was Timo Rost. With experience in the Bundesliga and abroad, the Franconian native came to Leipzig from Energie Cottbus in 2010. After his first year in the RBL jersey, he switched from number 10 to number 7.

Timo Rost ended his professional career in 2012. He then worked as head coach at SpVgg Bayreuth and Erzgebirge Aue, among others.
