Here are all the reactions to the goalless draw against Union Berlin on Matchday 3.
Peter Gulacsi
- “They defended with everything they had. We could’ve won 1-0, but Union also had their chance to win. It’s bitter, especially since it was in front of our own fans. We should have risked a bit more, we needed a bit more liveliness and luck. Now we have to focus on Atlético and Sankt Pauli.”
Lukas Klostermann
- “It feels a bit like we’ve lost three points. We knew that Union would play particularly defensively today. There was little room to play through. We tried to tire them out. We had more chances in the second half, but unfortunately we weren’t consistent enough.
On Thursday against Atlético we have to play with confidence. It will definitely be a different game.”
Kevin Kampl
- “We had a lot of possession, but were unable to create enough clear scoring opportunities. We should have played a little more on the outside because there was more space there. Union was very present in the center. And they were always waiting for counterattacks, so we had to watch out for the rest of the defence.
Sometimes close games like today’s are decided by a penalty, then you win 1-0. Unfortunately the penalty didn’t go in, but these things happen.
It’s never easy to come back together after an international break. We had big plans and really wanted to win so we could start the season with three wins. It’s bitter for us, we expected more. But the draw won’t set us back, we’re too strong and solid for that.
We now have a lot of back-to-back games now. We have to make sure that we stay fit and focused.”
