RBL’s Austrian trio have qualification in their sights

  • There are still 17 spaces to be filled and teams will fight tooth and nail this week to secure their spot at the tournament. Leipzig’s trio of Austrian players – Xaver Schlager, Christoph Baumgartner and Nicolas Seiwald – can book their tickets to next year’s tournament on Monday night. A win against Azerbaijan would ensure that they finish at least second in their group. If they can’t manage it on their own, a win for Belgium over third-placed Sweden, who count RBL midfielder Emil Forsberg among their ranks, would secure Austria’s place at next year’s championships.

Slovenia, Denmark and Hungary on course to qualify

  • Benjamin Sesko (Slovenia) and Yussuf Poulsen (Denmark) are two more RBL players who are on course for EURO 2024 qualification. Their respective national sides are level on points and occupy first and second place in Group H. Both teams play their eighth qualifier on Tuesday at 20:45 CEST, with Slovenia taking on Northern Ireland and Denmark travelling to San Marino. Sesko has been a standout performer, having scored eight goals in his last 11 appearances for Slovenia.

  • Hungary are also top of Group G, which is why Willi Orban, Peter Gulacsi and Co. are likely to be involved in next summer’s Euros if they beat Lithuania on Tuesday (20:45 CEST).

Important clash for Xavi

  • Monday’s round of qualifiers is extremely important for Xavi. At 20:45 CEST, the Netherlands take on Greece, their direct rivals in the race for automatic qualification. Greece currently have a three-point advantage over the Oranje in Group B and occupy second place behind France. If they manage at least a draw against Greece, their qualifying hopes would still be in their own hands – otherwise, the road to EURO 2024 will have to be via the play-offs for Xavi and Co.
