Match report

Marco Rose

  • “I think that we played some good football in the first half. After that, we started doing the things that we said we wanted to avoid before the game. The game became scrappy. Heidenheim did a lot of running and gave us problems in a number of situations.

We definitely should have scored a third goals. 24 chances ought to be enough to put the ball in the back of the net more often. That’s something that is making life difficult for us at the moment. Nevertheless, credit to my team on a good performance.”

Xaver Schlager

  • “Of course we’re happy with the three points, but it’s a tricky period for us at the moment. We’re putting in the hard yards and are pinning opponents back inside their own half at times, but then they get one chance and all of a sudden it’s 2-1. It’s tough to deal with mentally.

We may have been more clinical at the start of the season, but we’re playing good football at the moment. We just need to find our goalscoring boots. I hope that our strikers continue to find the net – that’s helping us a lot.”

Benjamin Henrichs

  • We played well, but we need to be more clinical with our finishing. We’re creating some lovely chances, but then we’re lacking that determination. Heidenheim had one chance in the first half and they got a goal. That was a tough blow for us.

Congrats by the way to Winners Osawe and the whole Germany team. I played at an U17 World Cup myself and I’m delighted for them.”

Janis Blaswich

  • “We made things unnecessarily difficult for ourselves today. We thoroughly deserved the win. We did what we had to do and got the three points. They had a big chance right before the end where we had a lapse in concentration, but we managed to come away with the win.

I’m really happy that Yussuf Poulsen scored again today. Now we’ll look ahead to the Dortmund game where we’re up against a quality side. We finally have a whole week until our next game, so we can focus on our preparation.”
