RB Leipzig and women’s head coach Şaban Uzun have agreed not to extend his contract, which expires on June 30, 2024. The 36-year-old took over the RBL women in July 2022 and led them from the 2. Bundesliga to the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga. The team is currently in 9th place in Germany’s top division with 16 points from 17 games.
Coaching staff changes:
A detailed analysis during the current cup and international break has now led to the decision to depart ways after two years together. This means that the RB Leipzig Women will start the coming 24/25 season with a new face in charge. Discussions with possible candidates will begin promptly.
VIOLA ODEBRECHT, HEAD OF WOMEN’S AND GIRLS’ FOOTBALL:
- “We would like to express our thanks to Şaban Uzun for the work he has done. During his tenure, he led us to promotion to the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga and to the DFB Cup semi-finals, our team’s greatest successes to date. We had different ideas about the future direction and further development of the team, so we came to the mutual decision not to extend the contract, which expires in June. We wish Şaban all the best for his future and will focus together on the remaining tasks in the league.”
ŞABAN UZUN, HEAD COACH:
- “RB Leipzig is a unique club, I felt very comfortable. In our first season we achieved promotion as champions with a record points tally, and reached the DFB Cup semi-final. And in our second season we are currently on target to stay in the league and achieve our goal. We will give everything until the last second.”
