RBL have qualified for the Champions League round of 16 for the fourth time

2020, 2021, 2023 – and 2024!

Our lads are assured of their place amongst Europe’s top 16 teams following their 2-1 win in Belgrade. Overall, it is the fourth time in the club’s history that RB Leipzig have qualified for the round of 16. However, the club has never secured qualification as quickly as this season. It’s already guaranteed after matchday 4 that RBL will compete in the knockout stages.

RBL will find out who their opponents are when the draw is made on 18th December 2023. The round of 16 games will be played between 13th February and 13th March 2024.

Before the knockout stages begin, RBL still face games against Manchester City (28.11) and Young Boys (13.12).

The following teams have qualified for the round of 16

  • RB Leipzig
  • Manchester City

On that occasion, they managed to reach the semi-finals following a convincing win against Tottenham (1-0 win, 3-0 win). The format of the Champions League was changed from its normal two-legged ties due to the Coronavirus pandemic, with single-legged ties being introduced from the quarter-final stage onwards. RBL crashed out in the semi-finals against PSG (3-0 loss) after beating Atletico Madrid (2-1 win) in the last eight.

RBL’s journey ended in the round of 16 against Liverpool the following year (2-0 loss, 2-0 loss). Last season, a clash against the eventual winners Manchester City (1-1 draw, 7-0 loss) was a step too far for our lads.
