October international break round-up

Our boys on international duty!

Here’s how our boys have been getting on during the international break:

  • Denmark are still on course to qualify for next years EUROs after a 2-1 win over San Marino. Yussi Poulsen was brought on in the 62nd minute for former Frankfurt winger Jesper Lindström (now at Napoli) and scored the winning goal eight minutes later.

  • Slovenia also got the job done on Tuesday evening, winning 1-0 against Northern Ireland thanks to an early goal from Gnezda Cerin.Benjamin Sesko played 90 minutes, but wasn’t involved in the goal. He scored a brace in Slovenia’s 3-0 victory over Finland, however.

  • Tuesday marked a special occasion for Castello Jr. The 20-year-old defender made his debut for France’s senior side in their 4-1 win over Scotland. Our summer arrival replaced former Leipzig player Ibrahima Konaté (now at Liverpool) in the 87th minute.

  • The Netherlands secured a narrow 1-0 win in Greece courtesy of a last-minute penalty from captain Virgil van Dijk, keeping them in the hunt for a place at the Euro 2024. The Dutch national team are now level on points with Greece (both on 12 points) in second place in Group B.

Xavi was once again in the starting XI and was substituted in the 62nd minute.

  • David Raum was brought on for Robin Gosens in the 65th minute of Germany’s 2-2 draw with Mexico.

  • Peter Gulacsi is also on track to qualify for the 2024 European Championships with Hungary. After five games, Hungary are ahead of Serbia and Montenegro in Group G, sitting in first place.

Hungary came back from 2-0 down against Lithuania to secure a point on Tuesday evening. Former RBL midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai scored from the spot to make it 2-1 before a goal from Barnabas Varga levelled things up late on. Leipzig’s Peter Gulacsi watched from the bench.

  • It’s time to celebrate for our Austrian trio! Xaver Schlager, Christoph Baumgartner and Nicolas Seiwald won 1-0 with the Austria national team against Azerbaijan and are now guaranteed to finish in one of the top two places in Group F.

Whilst Xaver and Nici played the entire game, Baumi came on at half-time.

Austria’s head coach Ralf Rangnick played Nici Seiwald at right-back in both of their games against Belgium (3-2 loss) and Azerbaijan (1-0).

  • After fatal shootings in the centre of Brussels on Monday evening, the game between Belgium and Sweden was abandoned, with the score 1-1 at the break. Emil Forsberg started the game for Sweden, whilst Lois Openda was named on the bench for Belgium.

  • Ilaix Moriba won his friendly against Guinea-Bissau with Guinea (1-0).
