Marco Rose: “A good win, but…”

Here are the reactions to the 2-0-win against Aston Villa.

We had the chance of getting the impressions from the following players to:

  • Lois Openda
  • Willi Orban
  • Maarten Vandevoordt

And of course, our manager Marco Rose shared his thoughts as well.

Lois Openda

  • “It was a good feeling. We won the first game in the USA. Even though it was a friendly, we really wanted to win today and show what we are capable of doing. It was a good start for us.

Our time in the US has been very cool so far. We’ve experienced a lot and still trained well. There’s a good connection between the younger and older players. We’re having a lot of fun together.”

Willi Orban

  • “Today’s opponent was really good, but it was a earned win for us. We had the ball a lot, we ran a lot. It was a good game.

The training sessions over the last few days were important and have gone well. We can be happy today. Many thanks also to our fans who traveled all the way from Leipzig and gave us great support.”

Maarten Vandevoordt

  • “The atmosphere in the arena was good. It was fun to play here in New York. It was a good win for us – we did a great job.

It’s really cool to be in the United States. It’s been a great experience so far, we’re also training hard and get on well with each other. We’re growing together as a team. The win gives us an extra boost.”

Marco Rose

  • “We all know that we played with an extra man for a long portion of the game. Still, we did well in the first half hour when it was still eleven aside. There was a good number of top players on the other side today. We scored two nice goals, that was good. However, I would have liked us to have played more clearly on one or two occasions.

I want us to stay focussed and be more consistent. We kept making minor passing errors. Our pressing also needs work. It was a good result, but we definitely have work to do.”
