Lois Openda opened his account for Leipzig in yesterday’s friendly against Udinese.
The striker spoke to the media on Wednesday to discuss his new teammates, his close relationship with his family and his childhood hero. Here are the most important bits:
Lois Openda on…
… his decision to join RB Leipzig
- “RB Leipzig have developed really well in recent years and it’s another step up from my last club. I always want to improve and I want to compete at the highest level, so it didn’t take long to make my decision. It became clear that I wanted to join right from the start. RB Leipzig is a top club.”
… his first days as a Leipzig player
- “The level of quality in this team is really high and the training is intense. But that is exactly what I want. I have been with the team for over a week now and I’ve had the chance to get to know all my teammates and the staff. I’m really happy to be here.
There’s a real togetherness in the squad and we can achieve a lot with that.”
Lois Openda on…
… his first goal
- “To have scored directly in my first game gives me a great feeling. The first minutes out on the pitch with the team were good. It was a great moment and it only makes me want more.”
… Forming a front two against Udinese with Timo Werner
- “Timo is a top striker and a top player. I’ve been following his path for several years now. He plays for Germany and he has won the Champions League. He set me up really nicely for my goal yesterday. I’m delighted to be playing in a team with him.”
Lois Openda on…
… his hobbies
- “I am a real family man. My family give me strength. I have a really close relationship with my mother. She really means a lot to me.
Off the field I place a lot of emphasis on regeneration. It is important to allow yourself rest periods. My focus is always on going into the next game in the best possible shape.“
… his hero
- “I’ve been a massive fan of Didier Drogba since my childhood. He was a great striker and I always followed his games at Chelsea. It’s still a dream of mine to meet him. Hopefully this will come true one day.”
