The diagnosis was made following a medical examination in Leipzig on Saturday. The midfielder will now undergo surgery in Innsbruck and will unfortunately be sidelined for several months.

Sporting director Rouven Schröder said the following:

“The news comes as a shock for us all and especially for Xaver. He is a key figure within our team and has been enjoying a strong season so far, one that he was hoping to crown by featuring at EURO 2024. The entire club wish Xaver a full and speedy recovery and we will make sure to provide him with all the support and resources he needs during his recovery!”

Come back stronger, Xaver! We’ll get through this setback together!
