“I’m really happy” | Janis Blaswich on his Germany call-up

A special moment for RB Leipzig’s keeper!

Only 12 months ago, he was our back-up goalkeeper. Now, after a year of exceptional performances between the sticks for RBL, Janis Blaswich has been recognised by Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann, who named the 32-year-old in his squad for the friendlies against Turkey (18th November) and Austria (21st November).

Benjamin Henrichs has also been called up for Germany alongside Blaswich. Benny missed the side’s trip to the USA in October due to injury.

Janis Blaswich’s best saves for RBL

Janis Blaswich on…

…being called up for Germany

  • “It was a big surprise for me. Obviously I’m really, really happy – delighted, even. I’m really grateful, especially to my teammates, because this probably wouldn’t have happened without the success we’ve achieved together.”

…the all-important phone call

  • “I spoke with the national team’s goalkeeper coach, Andreas Kronberg. His number was already saved on my phone from when he was at Freiburg. My wife told me that he was calling and I said that he’s not at Freiburg anymore, he’s working with the national team. At first, I was speechless, but also over the moon. I’m really looking forward to it.”

…the anticipation

  • “First and foremost, I’m looking forward to getting to know all the staff and the coaches. I’m looking forward to working hard, too. I hope that the mood in the camp is good and that I can play my part.”
