Strong with his head and an instinct for goal – that’s Benjamin Sesko in a nutshell. We spoke to our striker about the development of his current role in the team as well as the upcoming games against FC Augsburg and Real Madrid. He also told us what activity he enjoys most in his free time.
Benjamin Sesko about …
… his place in the starting eleven
- “I just try to fight every single second on the pitch. Especially when I’m playing from the start, I want to give 100% the whole game. Of course there will always be days when I’m a little tired or just not quite in top form, but in these moments it’s important to still try to give everything I have at that moment – because after all, I always want to be part of the starting line-up.”
… what he does in his free time
- “Most of the time I rest at home, sometimes I play video games and read something. When I’m in the city, I go for a walk or for a coffee – just relaxed and easygoing things like that. I don’t want it to tire me out too much. But as you may know, one of my biggest passions is actually playing basketball! I even built a basketball court at my house so I can play there whenever I want. Now of course it’s a little too cold, but in the summer I really enjoyed it out on the court.”
… the upcoming game against FC Augsburg
- “For me as a striker, the most important thing is to observe the opponents, especially the defenders: what are their strengths, what are their weaknesses. It is of course important to be as well prepared as possible as a team in general. We know that we are a really good team, we have shown that in the past. And yet it will be very difficult against Augsburg – they are not easy to beat. But without question, I am sure that if we are focused and 100% prepared, we can do it.”
… Real Madrid as opponents in the Champions League
- “Of course Real Madrid is one of the biggest clubs in football – you always look forward to the game. But I’m the type of person who tries to just concentrate on the game ahead. My focus will be on Madrid when the game in Augsburg is over – first we have to do our job there, then we can talk about Madrid.
Still, it will be a great game. Great team. Great players. It will be super difficult. But as I said before, we also have a great team with creative minds and a great team spirit!”
… the difficult start to the year
- “A win after a series of defeats is always a relief for the team in a certain way. The start of the new year was certainly not easy for us. But the most important thing is how you get out of such a phase so that you can refocus and don’t stop until the results are back on your side. And of course, football is all about looking forward and concentrating on what’s to come. That’s exactly what we did. Now it’s important to stick with it and to continue to show that we are back on the winning path.”
