Good to know

  • The 20-year-old’s full name is Fábio Leandro Freitas Gouveia Carvalho.
     
  • Fábio moved to England with his family in 2013 and and after spending a year at Balham FC, he joined Fulham’s academy in 2015.
     
  • In 2022, he won the FC EFL Championship (English second division) with Fulham.
     
  • Fábio was an absolutely key player during the ‘Cottagers’ promotion season. In 36 league games, he scored ten times, picking up a further eight assists. He was then signed by Liverpool.
     

First England, then Portugal

  • From U15 level he played for England’s youth teams, before switching his allegiance to Portugal in 2022. Fábio has played four games so far for the PortugalU21s and has scored two goals.
     
  • Fábio has Portuguese citizenship.

  • During the 2022/23 season, Fábio scored one of the latest goals in Premier League history, with his volley in the 98th minute against Newcastle United giving Liverpool a late 2-1 win.
     
  • Due to his good performances, the Liverpool fans created their own chant for him – ‘Fábio Carvalho, Fábio Fantastico’
     

Ronaldinho and Michael Jordan

  • His favourite player is former Barca star Ronaldinho.
     
  • He also has a lot of admiration for basketball hall of famer Michael Jordan. Fábio is a fan of the Netflix documentary ‘The Last Dance’, which covers the success of the Chicago Bulls in the 1980s and 1990s.
     

A love of cooking and Portuguese specialities

  • In his freetime, Fábio enjoys putting on his chef’s hat and doing some cooking. He describes this as helping him to relax and to reduce stress
     
  • As a rewards for good performances, the two-footed attacker treats himself to an ice cream from time to time or a ‘Pastel de Nata’ – a traditional Portuguesecustard tart.
