El Mago is staying at RB Leipzig!

Two days before the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin, RB Leipzig have extended Dani Olmo’s contract until 2027

RBL have secured the services of a fantastic player for another three years. Olmo has had a hand in 50 goals in 122 competitive games for the club (21 goals, 29 assists).

The 25-year-old moved to Leipzig in January 2020 from Dinamo Zagreb and settled in right away. He was part of the team that made the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2020 and the UEFA Europa League semi-finals in 2022. The Spaniard scored the third penalty in the shootout for the DFB-Pokal final last season, the club’s first major trophy.

Our number 7 has become a key player for the Spanish national team, winning 30 caps so far and scoring six goals. Together with his country he reached the semi-finals of EURO 2020 and then won a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. He also took part in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, reaching the round of 16 with Spain.

Olmo has played in 30 games in all competitions this season, scoring five times and recording 11 assists. He was on fire in our 5-1 win at SC Freiburg in the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal, scoring once and setting up a further three goals.

The DFB-Pokal is not just a special competition for RB Leipzig, but also for Dani Olmo. He has won on 12 of his 14 appearances in the competition and has had a hand in 11 goals (5 goals, 6 assists).

Dani Olmo:

  • “When I came to RB Leipzig three years ago, it was a huge step for me as a young talent coming into one of Europe’s top leagues. However, everyone made it very easy for me to settle in here, and I was able to hit the ground running.

RB Leipzig is a fantastic club in an amazing city with wonderful fans, and I’m delighted to have extended my contract. Both myself and the club have big ambitions for the future and want to take the next step together. We’re playing a style of football that suits me perfectly, and we have an incredible squad

I want to use my abilities to help the team so that we can continue to enjoy success together – ideally by winning the cup on Saturday too!”

Max Eberl:

  • “We’re really pleased to announce this important news before the Pokal final on Saturday. Dani Olmo is a key player for our team. He provides us with unique qualities. Aside from his technique and danger in front of goal, he’s also a really intelligent footballer and one of the best in the Bundesliga.

Dani has developed brilliantly at RB Leipzig and we can take the next steps together.

“The discussions with Dani, his family and his agent were intense, but always fair. Dani knows how much he is valued here in Leipzig and knows how ambitious we are too. It’s great that we’ve been able to get his contract extension sorted ahead of the new season.”
