The second friendly in the US!
Our players met Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers at Chase Stadium in Miami.
“Wolves” had a former Leipzig player, Hwang Hee-chan, in the starting line-up. Our starting eleven included two youngsters, Viggo Gebel and Lionel Voufack.
Unfortunately, only the English team was able to celebrate on Saturday evening in Miami. Immediately after a good chance at goal by Andre Silva, Lukas Klostermann scored in his own goal to make it 0-1 (18t’). Pablo Sarabia (62′) and Rodrigo Gomes (73′) scored the other goals.

17th Minute: Andre almost scores – Wolves return the favor
- Almost 1-0! Andre Silva took a bold shot from a half-right position just 20 meters out with his left foot. His powerful shot was barely cleared by the opposing keeper. Our players also caused trouble in Wolves’ penalty area with the following corner. But would be another unsuccessful shot.
On the contrary: The direct counterattack brought the lead for the English Premier League team. Lukas Klostermann deflected a powerful shot from Sarabia, making it impossible for Maarten Vandevoordt to stop, for the 0-1 (18′).
44th Minute: Lois narrowly misses
- RBL combined well going forward. In the end, Mo Simakan headed the ball to Lois Openda on the right side of the penalty box. Our Belgian striker didn’t hesitate to shoot. His volley whizzed past the right side of the goal by a few centimeters.
RBL prospects get their chance
- In the second half, our head coach Marco Rose made some substitutions and gave a couple of the youngsters playing time. Viggo Gebel received special praise afterwards.
Pablo Sarabia (62′) and Rodrigo Gomes (73′) increased the score for our opponents in the second half, leading to the match in Miami ending 0-3.
