He led the way in his anniversary game against Real Madrid, where he was named UEFA’s “Man of the Match” and headed the ball in to secure a 1-1 draw.

Our defender has been at RB Leipzig since 2015 and has been a defining face of the club for many years. The Palatinate native moved from his youth club 1. FC Kaiserslautern to the”Messestadt” over eight and a half years ago.

After Yussuf Poulsen (391 appearances) and Emil Forsberg (325), Willi is the third Leipzig Bull to play in at least 300 games.

Willi played his first game for RBL on July 25, 2015 in a 1-0 win against FSV Frankfurt in the 2. Bundesliga. 300 games later, the 30-year-old can look back on a success story: promotion to the Bundesliga , two victories in the DFB Pokal, Supercup title, and qualification for the Champions League a total of six times .

In August of this year, Willi extended his contract until 2027. “I’ve long since felt at home in Leipzig and feel incredibly comfortable here. It’s a great city with great fans and people. It’s something unique to play for RB Leipzig because we can create something ourselves here.”
