Vargas: “Allowed Dortmund far too much space”
Post-match reaction to the defeat in Dortmund
FC Augsburg were unable to take any points from their penultimate away game of the season. Read on for all the post-match reaction from the game.
Ermedin Demirović: “We came here feeling extremely motivated and wanted to be aggressive in order to take something from the game, but nothing went to plan. We conceded far too easily and we just weren’t there in the key moments. That makes it even harder to put together a comeback. We kept fighting in the second half and continued to look to attack, but the better team won today. Our focus now is on our next two games in order to finish the season strong.”
Ruben Vargas: “The game today showed that we made things far too easy for Dortmund and allowed them far too much space. We’ve shown many times already this season that we can do much better. We fought until the end but are left empty-handed. Our aim is to keep our heads held high in order to show what we’re capable of in our next two games.”
Jess Thorup (FC Augsburg coach): “Our aim today wasn’t to park the bus. We tried to press the opponent and put them under pressure. Sadly, that didn’t work. The early goal we conceded contributed to this, but I feel like we had some chances. Our xG of 2.5 shows that too. We had problems in both final thirds. We left too much space defensively and we needed too many chances to score. We deserved to lose 5-1 in the end.”
Edin Terzic (Borussia Dortmund coach): “We’re very pleased with the game, the result and the circumstances around it. It was a special game, particularly because of Marco Reus, and you could sense that. It was important for us to put in a good performance at home. We rotated a lot to give every player a chance. They all showed how important they can be for us.”
