Jess Thorup signs contract extension

New deal valid until 30th June 2026

Ahead of the home game against FC St. Pauli (Sunday, 15th September, 15:30 CEST), FC Augsburg have agreed on a contract extension with head coach Jess Thorup. His current deal was due to expire in 2025 and the 54-year-old Dane, who took over last October, now has a contract valid until 30th June 2026, marking the club’s wish for continuity and underling the good work done so far.

“We’re really pleased to have extended his contract. Jess is ambitious, fully identifies with our club philosophy and with FCA overall. Parts of that mean working closely with our own academy and developing players. We’ve had some really positive and valued conversations in recent weeks, and believe that we can continue to drive FCA forward together,” said Michael Ströll, FC Augsburg CEO.

FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic added: “Jess turned things around last season and got consistent performances and results from the team. Under his leadership, individual players and the team overall have continuously developed. We’re really pleased to be able to continue working together with him as a coach and a person. It’s a milestone step towards continuing the direction and path we’ve taken. We will continue working together on this in all regards.”

Thorup: “Felt at home here right from the start”

“I’m delighted to extend my contract with FC Augsburg. I felt at home here right from the start and the impression I was left with is that FCA are a very family-oriented, yet ambitious, club. I greatly enjoy getting to work closely with the players, management team and the backroom staff, as well as our close relationship with the fans. I continue to see enormous potential within the squad and will continue to do everything I can to contribute to the positive and sustainable growth of the club,” said Thorup.

Jess Thorup’s first match as head coach of FC Augsburg was a 5-2 win in Heidenheim on 22nd October 2023. The team remained unbeaten across their next five matches before ending the season in 11th place, the club’s third-highest finish in their Bundesliga history.
