Irvin Cardona moves on loan to Espanyol

No buy option

Attacker Irvin Cardona, under contract at FCA until 2027, has joined Spanish top-flight side Espanyol on a season-long loan. The two clubs have agreed to keep the details of the loan deal undisclosed.

More match practice at a higher level

Irvin Cardona has made 13 Bundesliga appearances for FCA so far, scoring one goal and recording one assist. He spent the second half of last season on loan at French second-division club AS Saint-Étienne, helping them earn promotion back to Ligue 1 with 10 goals and three assists in 22 competitive games.

“After a successful six months on loan at Saint-Étienne, where Irvin played a big role in them winning promotion, he returned to FCA full of confidence. However, during pre-season it became clear that his chances of game time here would be slim. Another loan move offers him the chance to get lots of minutes at a club in a top 5 league. We hope that this is another successful loan for Irvin and that he can continue his development in an interesting league,” said sporting director Marinko Jurendic.

“I’m also confident that a move to the Spanish top flight is the perfect step for this stage of my career. I had a successful spell in Saint-Étienne and I played regular football. I hope the same happens now with Espanyol,” commented Irvin Cardona.
