Gouweleeuw to captain FCA in 2024/25, new team council chosen
Onus on all players to take up responsibility
Ahead of FC Augsburg’s final pre-season friendly against Olympique Marseille on Saturday, 10th August (17:00 CEST), the club have announced their captain and team council for the 2024/25 season. Jeffrey Gouweleeuw will wear the armband this coming season, with Kristijan Jakic and Fredrik Jensen as vice-captains. Phillip Tietz, Mads Pedersen and Arne Maier will complete the six-man team council.
“We have several players that have what it takes to be leaders. We’ve chosen this group of players because it’s a good representation of our team. It includes players that have been at FCA for a long time now and who know the club very well by now. These players have proven in the past already that they have the mentality, desire and motivation to serve as an example, both on and off the pitch, and that they are prepared to take up responsibility,” explained Jess Thorup.
All players prepared to take up responsibility
The head coach added, “Although we have made this decision each and every player still has the duty of taking up responsibility and demonstrating this to the team, whether it’s on or off the pitch.”
“It’s an honour for me to be able to lead this team as captain once against. I’m very happy that the coach and the club have placed their trust in myself and the rest of the team council. Together, we will do everything to represent our team and the club in the best way possible, both on and off the pitch. We are ambitious and want to lead by example,” said Gouweleeuw, who joined FCA in January 2016 and is now heading into his 10th season with the club.
