Elvis Rexhbecaj suffers metatarsal fracture

Operation on Thursday

Elvis Rexhbecaj will miss the rest of the season for FC Augsburg. The 26-year-old, who captained his side in the 1-1 draw against 1. FC Köln on Easter weekend, suffered a metatarsal fracture in his right foot during the game against his former club. The midfielder, who featured 31 times in the Bundesliga last season for FCA and already 25 times this campaign, had to be substituted after a foul in the 57th minute. After undergoing an operation on Thursday, he will begin his recovery.

“This is a difficult diagnosis to take for Elvis and the team. We’re giving him our full support for his operation and recovery. Elvis is a fighter who won’t let this knock the wind out of his sails. We’re therefore convinced that he’ll be back with the team on the pitch next season,” said FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic.

“I’ve almost always been fit over the last few years and have been able to play a lot of games. This injury is therefore very frustrating, especially as I need an operation. But I’m looking to the future with confidence and I’m sure that I’ll come back stronger after my recovery. I wish the lads all the best for the rest of the season,” said Elvis Rexhbecaj, who is staying upbeat.
