Breithaupt: “We’ve been able to work on every aspect”

Interview with the FCA midfielder

FCA’s training camp in Mpumalanga ends on Sunday, but not before they take on South African side TS Galaxy on Saturday. Midfielder Tim Breithaupt is already looking back positively on the training camp.

The 22-year-old, who made 16 Bundesliga appearances for FCA last season, spoke about …

… his experience of South Africa: “It’s been a very interesting trip. It started with the safari, which was a new experience for a lot of the boys. The school visit was also amazing though. It was incredible to see the kids just radiate joy. The main focus of the training camp is of course the sporting aspect however. We’ve trained well and feel prepared for next season.”

… the training sessions: “We’ve been able to work on every aspect and had some good sessions. That’s the purpose of the training camp. We need to be fit for the first game. We’re progressing well and have another match against TS Galaxy tomorrow. We’re aiming to finish off the training camp with a win.”

… his first year at FCA: “My first season was really positive, but also a bit of a roller coaster. I joined from the second tier, where I played a lot of games, and I also played a lot here to start with. Then, there was a period that wasn’t so easy, but it’s all part of your development as a young player. I got a lot of minutes towards the end of the season, which meant I went into the summer break feeling good. I want to fully kick on next season and take the next steps in my development.”

… his role in the team: “I see myself as a classic number six, but I can also play as an eight, so I’m flexible. I feel comfortable on the pitch and want to impress in training and in the friendly matches. Everything else is down to the coach.”

… the final few weeks of pre-season: “At the start of pre-season, the focus was on fitness and intensity, but now the last few weeks are about working on the small details. The new players have integrated really well into the squad and are getting used to how we play. After the training camp, we’ve got two interesting friendlies against Leicester City and Olympique de Marseille, where we want to show what we’ve got. We’re looking forward to that.”
