Romano: Real Madrid ‘really appreciate’ Chelsea forward who is Premier League’s ‘worst finisher’

Real Madrid are showing interest in Chelsea forward Kai Havertz, with Carlo Ancelotti a big fan of the player, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Havertz joined the Blues from Bayer Leverkusen for around £72million in 2020.

He did score the only goal of the game when Chelsea beat Manchester City in the final of the Champions League in 2021, but overall, the German’s time at Stamford Bridge has been extremely disappointing.

have just finished their worst season in decades and much of their failings have been down to their lack of an out-and-out striker.

Havertz has led the line for the last 18 months after Romelu Lukaku lost his place in the starting XI and was then loaned out to Inter last summer.

This has really hindered the Blues going forward, and has made Havertz look like a bang-average player, which he definitely is not, he is just being played in the wrong position.

, Havertz is not expected to be Chelsea’s No. 9 next season, but he does seem to be a part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

Despite his failure to live up to his price tag, the German international is attracting interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid.

This is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who confirmed on his YouTube channel that Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti really likes the 23-year-old.

It is claimed that Chelsea are “open” to selling Havertz, but only for an “important” fee.

“Real Madrid really appreciate Kai Havertz,” Romano said. “He was one of the names they mentioned during an internal meeting they had with Carlo Ancelotti and with people on the board who report to Florentino Perez.

“They believe that Kai Havertz is the kind of creative player with the skills Real Madrid don’t have in the current team.

“One crucial factor is Carlo Ancelotti. He really appreciates Kai Havertz, and considers Kai Havertz as a really, really good player. He has been a big fan of him for a long time.

“Chelsea are open to negotiating. Kai Havertz is not an untouchable player at Chelsea.

“Some of the reports from Spain were mentioning a loan, or a loan with a buy option clause…no, Chelsea want important money for their important players.

“Chelsea are not closing the door, they want important money or nothing.”
