Barcelona and Xavi were keen on bringing him back to Spain, but their financial situation meant they couldn’t get offer Messi a deal.

With this being the case, it looks as if Messi has agreed a deal with MLS club Inter Miami.

“Lionel Messi to Inter Miami, here we go! The decision has been made and it will be announced by Leo in the next hours,” Romano confirmed on Twitter.

“Messi will play in MLS next season. No more chances for Barcelona/Al Hilal despite trying to make it happen.

“Deal will be valid with immediate effect as Jorge Messi is planning to travel to Miami later tonight.”

The profile of the MLS will be massively boosted by Messi’s arrival. While no longer at the peak of his powers, Messi is still one of the best players in the world.

In Ligue 1 this season, Messi produced 32 goal contributions and he is still in the race for the Ballon d’Or later this year.

“The former Barcelona player is set to reject a more lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal,” clarified Balague.

“The Miami deal includes collaboration from brands like Adidas and Apple.

“But Messi was ultimately tempted to Major League Soccer side Inter Miami for a variety of reasons including lifestyle, and a deal with big brands that extends beyond football.

“He already owns a house in Miami, which he currently rents out.”

Inter Miami recently parted company with Phil Neville as the MLS side has fallen below expectations this season.
