Mount ‘tells Chelsea he wants Man Utd transfer’ and deal could be done by ‘end of the week’

Mason Mount has told Chelsea that he wants to move to Man Utd in the summer transfer window as talks progress between the Premier League clubs, according to reports.

The 24-year-old is about to enter the final year of his contract and has been heavily linked with a move away from the club he joined aged six.

The parties have been in talks for much of the season over a new deal but have failed to reach an agreement, and it seems increasingly likely that he will leave .

If no extension is agreed it will mean he is free to begin negotiating with other clubs at the start of next year, but Chelsea could look to sell in the summer to avoid the possibility of the academy graduate leaving on a free transfer.

As a youth product any sale would be recorded in Chelsea’s accounts as pure profit, which would assist in their bid to remain within Financial Fair Play rules following a mammoth transfer outlay over the last 12 months.

And Football Insider expect Mount to be sold to Man Utd with the Red Devils ‘working on finalising the signing by the end of the week’ after the England international ‘told Chelsea he wants Man Utd transfer’.

Mount has already ‘agreed personal terms’ with the Red Devils and .

It is understood that the duo are ‘yet to agree a fee but negotiations between United and the Londoners are advancing’ with Chelsea slightly lowering their asking price.

After initially asking for £80m for Mount they have now dropped their price to £70m with Champions League football said to be a ‘big factor’ in Mount choosing Man Utd over Liverpool.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara has labelled Chelsea owner Todd Boehly a “disgrace” for making Mount available and replacing him with “garbage”.

Chelsea have spent around £600m on new players over the last two transfer windows but their fortunes on the pitch have taken a bad turn.

“I think Boehly’s a disgrace,” O’Hara told talkSPORT. “What they’re doing is downgrading Mason Mount, a top player, homegrown player, been at the club since he was 10.
