Man Utd to pay Maguire £10m ‘to get him off their books’ amid calls to ‘get rid’ of four players

Man Utd are preparing to pay Harry Maguire £10m to get him off their wage bill in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The England international’s future at Old Trafford is up in the air with a departure from Man Utd looking likely this summer following a lack of game time.

Erik ten Hag – who has overseen a good first season at the helm – , while Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw have started ahead of Maguire at times this season.

Maguire has taken more criticism than most during his time at Old Trafford and the Daily Mail claim that he is now ‘set to leave’ Man Utd in the summer.

The report adds that the Englishman ‘is in line for a £10million pay-off from Manchester United if he leaves Old Trafford this summer’ with this weekend’s FA Cup final ‘likely to be Maguire’s last game as a United player’.

Man Utd value him at £30m, four years after signing him from Leicester City for £80m and, with two years left on his £190,000-a-week deal, the Red Devils could have to subsidise his wage packet if he leaves.

The Daily Mail continue by saying that Maguire would probably ‘earn only half that amount at a new club’ and that would mean Man Utd would have to ‘foot a £10m wage bill to get him off their books’.

Maguire is one of four players that Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand would like to see as he thinks the England international “has to look at a new option for himself”.

“McTominay hasn’t played much football, not as much as he would like,” Ferdinand told the Vibe with Five podcast earlier this week.

“If I was him as a young player I would probably start assessing that situation and start having real hard conversations with the club [asking] ‘do you see me as part of it or not?’.

“If I’m that far down the pecking order I would start looking and I don’t think he will have a problem finding a club, he is a very good footballer and he can add a lot of value. Maguire has to look at a new option for himself. Unless he says he’s happy to be the third or fourth choice.

“Elanga maybe [is another], he is not getting a chance. Martial has proved that he can’t stay fit. I think if you got rid of those four, there is  £100million sitting there.
