Man Utd are reportedly plotting a ‘sensational swap deal’ that would see them sign Denzel Dumfries from Serie A giants Inter Milan.
Dumfries has consistently been linked with a move to the Premier League over the past couple of years. This comes amid his great performances for the Netherlands at major tournaments.
Erik ten Hag regularly came up against Dumfries during their time together in the Eredivisie at Ajax and PSV respectively.
The defender joined Inter Milan in 2021 and he has shone for the Italian outfit over the past two seasons. He is being linked elsewhere amid the club’s uncertain financial situation.
Last month it was reported that
The Red Devils currently have Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to choose from at right-back,
Football Insider are reporting that Man Utd ‘could seal a sensational swap deal with Inter Milan involving Lindelof and Dumfries this summer.’
Ten Hag is a ‘huge fan’ of Dumfries. It is noted that the head coach ‘considered a permanent move’ for a right-back in January, but at the time, United ‘couldn’t raise the funds needed to complete a deal’.
Inter Milan meanwhile ‘have been widely linked’ with Lindelof. They are in the market for a centre-back who can replace Milan Skriniar, who is set to join PSG on a free transfer in the summer.
This proposed swap deal is said to be a ‘real possibility’ and it could be a ‘deal to watch’ during the summer transfer window.
Lindelof has only played 20 times across all competitions this term and this includes just five starts in the Premier League. He has been behind Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the pecking order.
Martinez has insisted that he “really enjoys” playing alongside Varane.
”Rapha [Raphael Varane] is an amazing player,” began Martinez, in Seville, earlier this evening. ”I really enjoy playing with him.
”They are always ready and I am happy because we have a really good connection. When you have those players and that connection, you can have clean sheets and you can play [with confidence at] the back.”
When asked about Man Utd’s pursuit for more trophies, Martinez added: ”We have really good players. We are Manchester United and we want to win every trophy. We have to work hard, which we are doing now.
“We have to go game-by-game and believe, but we have to fight for every title.”
