Joao Felix slammed for ‘forgettable’ display as Thierry Henry breaks down Chelsea star’s error

Joao Felix’s display for Chelsea against Real Madrid has been described as ‘forgettable’ as Thierry Henry expertly broke down the loanee’s big chance after two minutes in the Bernabeu.

The Blues face an uphill battle to qualify for the Champions League semi-finals having lost 2-0 to the reigning champions on Wednesday, with goals in each half from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio securing victory for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

, but Felix was torn apart for his ‘forgettable’ showing in the Spanish media.

Marca said that Felix returned to Spain as one of Chelsea’s main assets ‘to surprise Real Madrid’, adding that ‘the Portuguese tried to play between the lines but was always well covered by the Madrid defence’.

The report continued: ‘[Eder] Militao was one of the players who kept him at bay. With Benzema’s goal, Felix was disappearing so that his participation in the second-half was discreet.’

The 23-year-old, who’s on loan at Chelsea from Atletico Madrid, had a huge chance after just two minutes to put Chelsea ahead.

But sent clean through on goal from halfway by N’Golo Kante, Felix allowed Militao to get back before hitting his shot straight at Thibaut Courtois.

Analysing the moment for CBS Sports, Henry insisted Felix needed to show more composure, and failed to do the one thing that’s a must in that situation.

“You would like to think Joao Felix would have had the composure in the box,” he said.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been in that situation and it is not easy.

“What was easy for me was to have the awareness that you need to cut across.

“That’s the first thing that you learn as a centre forward. When defenders are chasing, I cut across.

“Slow or quick striker, it will give you that advantage of 1v1 or a red card. I’ve been in that situation, although I’d like to think I was composed in the box.”

“When you’re not scoring, it feels like that time is really fast and you don’t have that composure anymore.”
