‘Interesting’ Klopp target ‘likes’ idea of Liverpool move; Reds interest ‘more concrete’ than Man Utd

Liverpool have been in talks with Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram for a number of weeks, according to reports in France.

Thuram has been on top form for the Ligue 1 side this term and is attracting a lot of interest across Europe.

His fine form at club level earned him a France debut in March 2023, coming off the bench against the Netherlands in a Euro 2024 qualifier.

The 22-year-old joined Nice from Monaco on a free transfer in July 2019 and is under contract until 2025.

In 48 appearances across all competitions this term, Thuram has scored twice and provided eight assists.

Playmaking and goalscoring are not his areas of expertise, however. Thuram is a very effective ball carrier who can be utilised as a defensive or box-to-box midfielder.

There are a lot of rumours about the Frenchman’s future amidst interest from Newcastle United, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Speaking this month, Thuram admitted he is happy in Nice and is not looking to leave this summer.

“I want to progress, be on the pitch, have fun,” he said. “For now, I’m at Nice, and that’s going very well, I really like the club, so I still see myself at Nice.

“I am happy at Nice. There are rumours, I hear them, but I’m happy at Nice and I hope to grow with this club.”

Liverpool are in the market for a whole new midfield and are willing to spend a fair whack despite opting against the expensive signing of Borussia Dortmund sensation Jude Bellingham, who is reportedly set to join Real Madrid.

According to L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), the Reds have been in talks with Thuram’s representatives ‘for a few weeks’.

The idea of joining Liverpool is ‘liked’ within the player’s camp, though it is said that Nice ‘are not ready to sell’ their star player.

Meanwhile, GOAL journalist Neil Jones has said there is ‘definite interest’ coming from Liverpool.

Jones wrote: ‘At 22 and having shone in Ligue 1 for Nice, Thuram looks primed, like his brother Marcus, for a transfer this summer.

“And while Liverpool sources have played down suggestions that a move to Anfield is in the offing, there is definitely interest on the Reds’ part. Understandably so, too.

‘Thuram’s age and skillset make him a more than interesting proposition, and for a side which has lacked bite and energy for large parts of this season, it could be one that is hard to resist.’
