According to reports, Everton are interested in signing Wout Weghorst following his loan spell with Manchester United this season.
It’s fair to say that the Dutch forward has divided options since joining Man United in the January transfer window.
After United parted company with Cristiano Ronaldo, they turned to Weghorst in January as a short-term option to cover the position.
While the 30-year-old has been of use at times, he has struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.
The Burnley loanee scored just two goals across 31 appearances and failed to score in the Premier League entirely.
According to talkSPORT, Everton are now considering a move for the Burnley forward in the summer.
Weghorst is contracted with Burnley until 2025 and they seem likely to cash in on him this summer.
Vincent Kompany will be keen on signing his own players ahead of the Clarets Premier League campaign and could green light a move.
Sean Dyche did originally sign Weghorst while at Burnley and a reunion at Goodison Park could now be on the cards.
Everton have struggled for goals during the 2022-23 campaign, having scored just 34 all season.
They haven’t been able to rely on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and their other forwards have struggled to find much form.
As Weghorst himself has found goals hard to come by this season, some Everton fans will surely be apprehensive about this move.
There’s no doubt that he has something to offer, but the Dutch forward needs to be surrounded by other players who offer a goal threat.
Following Man United’s FA Cup final loss,
“I don’t know,” Ten Hag told reporters. “You can’t say that at the moment. I am not at the moment into transfer politics.
“At the moment I am in this game and we will do everything. Wout made a very good contribution to the team result from where we took him.”
Man United are working on a deal for a statement signing this summer. Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen continue to be linked with the club.
With Everton now in the hunt for Weghorst, it looks as if the 30-year-old will be on the move once more this summer.
Ex-Man Utd striker Wout Weghorst reacted angrily to a training ground clash with Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber on international duty with the Netherlands.
None other than Wout Weghorst rescued the Netherlands against Poland. Ronald Koeman needs him…if he uses him properly and not like Erik ten Hag did.
