Arsenal director Edu has told Gunners fans that the summer transfer window will “once again raise the level of our squad” amid reports of interest in a £20m full-back.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed on Friday that Galatasaray star Sacha Boey ‘has now signed with CAA Stellar as new agents to prepare potential summer move’.
Romano also claimed in that tweet that Boey’s representatives had ‘been in London this week to negotiate with English clubs’ with the ‘Premier League his most likely destination’.
And on Saturday he further added that ‘Arsenal are one of the two English clubs informed on Sacha Boey deal — as they explore options for RB position’.
Boey is an alternative to Ivan Fresneda, who’s also been linked with a move to the Emirates to replace Ben White at right-back, with Football Insider claiming Mikel Arteta is looking to ‘push White back into a central role’.
The report claimed ‘Borussia Dortmund currently lead the race for Fresneda, but Arsenal are big admirers and could table a bid this summer to match Real Valladolid’s £20million asking price.’
£20m is also what Galatasaray reportedly want for Boey, though as with Fresneda, competition for the full-back may ramp up the cost.
Edu outlined what Arsenal’s transfer plans are for the summer in an interview with ESPN Brazil, insisting they will “once again raise the level of our squad”.
Edu said: “It’s identifying very well where we can improve. If they are individual, isolated positions; if they are units; if they are ‘final third’, as we call it here; if they are midfield, defensive parts; This diagnosis we already have, because we already have a very clear style of play by Arteta,”
“Today, you see Arsenal playing and identify with it, you know that is Arsenal’s style. So now it’s time to understand where we can boost the units so that the team can improve and go to another level of performance. And I think there is another level, we have one more level.
“With me and Arteta talking, we find it; we believe that we have a level to improve in terms of performance. And now make a good transfer window, understand the need to get right the athlete, the characteristics, the mentality of the athlete that we want, to once again raise the level of our squad.”
