Chelsea have reportedly proposed a swap deal to sign Manuel Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon, with Mauricio Pochettino drawing up a wishlist of four further midfielders.
Pochettino was officially announced as Chelsea’s new manager on Monday, signing a two-year deal at Stamford Bridge with the option of a further year.
He can now begin reshaping the Chelsea squad, with a number of outgoings expected as well as a few new additions.
Ugarte could be the Argentinian’s first new signing after a report on Monday confirmed Pochettino had ‘approved’ the 22-year-old’s arrival, with .
Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa were also thought to be interested in the Uruguayan, while Paris Saint-Germain were willing to meet his £52m release clause.
But according to Record, Chelsea are offering £62m plus £4m in add-ons for Ugarte, who wants to join the Blues over PSG.
It’s also claimed Chelsea have ‘floated loaning striker David Datro Fofana’, who joined the club in January from Malmo for £11m but featured just three times in the Premier League.
It’s thought Fofana’s opportunities at Stamford Bridge will be limited next term and a loan move will give him the chance of game time to fulfil his potential.
There looks set to be significant change to Chelsea’s midfield this summer, with Liverpool and Manchester United ready to take advantage of Mason Mount’s contract dispute and Mateo Kovacic expected to leave the club.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also thought to be on his way out with AC Milan in talks with the midfielder to finalise a transfer, while the future of N’Golo Kante is also up in the air, though he is expected to sign an extension.
With so many potential departures Chelsea will likely have to sign another midfielder as well as Ugarte, and Express claim Pochettino has drawn up a four-man wishlist.
