Chelsea, Man Utd ready to ‘battle’ for Leeds United man; Tyler Adams has ‘illustrious suitors’

Manchester United are interested in signing Leeds United pair Tyler Adams and Illan Meslier, with Chelsea also following the latter, according to reports.

Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League was confirmed last Sunday after their heavy defeat at home to Tottenham.

Former head coach Jesse Marsch was backed with several signings last summer, but he could not keep the Whites away from the bottom three and ultimately lost his job in February.

The Yorkshire side suffered plenty of heavy defeats under Marsch’s successor Javi Gracia, which resulted in a lot of criticism towards goalkeeper Meslier.

The young Frenchman conceded a record 23 goals in the month of April and finally lost his spot in the starting XI to Joel Robles when Sam Allardyce replaced Gracia for the final four matches of the season.

The change in goal helped go from conceding 3.2 goals per game in April to 2.75 per game in May. Maybe the problems went further than the goalkeeper after all.

Meslier is still rated despite a disappointing campaign and is being linked with an exit in the summer.

The 23-year-old has been linked with both Chelsea and Manchester United for well over a year, with both clubs looking to sign a ‘keeper.

Erik ten Hag is eager to bring in some competition to keep David De Gea on his toes, while a priority for the Blues is a new No. 1 with Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy failing to impress.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Meslier is ‘coveted’ across Europe with United and Chelsea ‘ready to battle for him’.

Speaking to Stadium Astro, former Leeds shot-stopper Paul Robinson said he expects Meslier to move on this summer.

“This squad without doubt will be dismantled,” he claimed.

“Meslier will go, the goalkeeper, he’s been poor the second-half of the season but he’s a great talent so someone will take him.”

“We’ve heard noises about Robin Koch and his international dream,” he said.

“There have been noises about Illan Meslier. They are both players I could see departing in the summer.”

Meanwhile, the TuttoMercatoWeb report also claims United States midfielder Adams is on Manchester United’s summer shortlist.

Adams is a reported target for Newcastle United, Spurs, Liverpool, and the Red Devils.

It is claimed that the former RB Leipzig star has ‘illustrious suitors’ and Ten Hag would ‘gladly’ bring him to Old Trafford as he desperately looks to bolster his midfield.

The report also claims that Marc Roca, Rodrigo, Pascal Struijk and Luis Sinisterra could all leave Leeds in the summer, .

There appears to be a bunch of Leeds players with relegation clauses in their contracts, meaning a huge clearout at Elland Road is on the cards.

A report from 90min has said Adams and Brenden Aaronson are two stars likely to leave in the summer.

The latter now has a £25million release clause and will probably go, even though he was poor in his maiden season in the Premier League.

United States captain Adams is attracting interest from ‘Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham, while he is also being tracked by clubs in Germany, Italy and Spain’, the report says.
