Arne Slot deals Tottenham huge blow as ‘rumours’ *he* incited are bullsh*t

Tottenham have been dealt a huge blow in their search for a new manager as frontrunner Arne Slot confirmed he will be staying at Feyenoord, claiming the “rumours” he encouraged are bullsh*t.

Spurs have been on the lookout for a new boss since Antonio Conte left back in March having taken a swipe at the club’s ambition and calling the players “selfish”.

Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique were heavily linked, with Brendan Rodgers another name frequently mentioned with regard to the vacant position, but over the last few days it’s been reported that Feyenoord boss Slot was their top choice. It looked like a done deal.

It was claimed last week that Slot had ‘agreed’ to join Tottenham on the back of winning the Eredivisie title, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy reluctantly opting to pay the £6m to release the 44-year-old from his contract.

Slot himself added fuel to the fire, then poured lighter fluid all over it, as he claimed earlier this week that his departure from Feyenoord “can be good for the club”.

“Everyone needs clarity quickly,” he told ESPN. “I [rejected] Leeds in the winter and now I’m staying or leaving.

“My departure can also be good for the club, but if there is no dream club then I will stay.

“In football it is commonplace that you talk to clubs. I am not saying that I have done it now, but it is not forbidden that I talk to other clubs.”

And now, incredibly, Slot claims the rumours weren’t true – he was always staying at Feyenoord.

“I have been hearing a lot of rumours going around about other club’s interest in me. Although I am thankful my wish is to stay at Feynoord and continue working on what we created last year.

“There is not – and there has not been – transfer conversation and yesterday’s meeting was exclusively for an extension. All talks with the club have always been only in that sense. Looking forward to next season with Feyenoord.”
