Agbonlahor reignites Klopp feud as he claims Liverpool boss ‘deserves longer ban’ for ‘goading’ official

Gabby Agbonlahor thinks Jurgen Klopp “deserves a longer ban and a bigger fine” after the Liverpool boss admitted an FA charge of improper conduct.

The German received a two-match ban on Thursday for an “unwarranted attack” on referee Paul Tierney over comments made following after implying the referee was biased against his side.

Klopp will now be in the stands, rather than on the touchline, for the Reds’ match against Aston Villa on Saturday but the second game of his ban has been suspended until next season and will only be served if he breaches FA rule E3 again in the next 12 months.

Diogo Jota dramatically won the match against Tottenham in the dying moments of a 4-3 victory over Spurs with after disagreeing with some of Tierney’s previous decisions.

And Agbonlahor was annoyed that the Liverpool boss didn’t get banned for more matches after getting in the face of the fourth official following Jota’s late winner.

Former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT: “Why doesn’t he get another ban for running up to the fourth official and goading in his face?!’

“‘You can’t do that. The fourth official has no say in the game. He doesn’t deserve that treatment from Jurgen Klopp. I think he deserves a longer ban and a bigger fine.”

The feud between Agbonlahor and Klopp dates back to the beginning of the season when the Liverpool boss overheard the former Premier League striker criticising Manchester United after their 4-0 defeat to Brentford.

“I listened to Gabby….,” Klopp said in a press conference. “He lost against us 6-0 in my first season and I don’t remember him being a mentality monster on the pitch.

“What he said on that show. I almost phoned in to tell him he has forgotten that he used to be a player. It was unbelievable.”

Agbonlahor responded on talkSPORT in August: “Klopp only knew my first name, not my second name! He knew what he was doing. It’s that way of saying: ‘Oh, I don’t know who he is. What’s his name?’

“And ever since… 16pts behind Arsenal now. It’s not been the mentality monster season for Liverpool. I’m just saying, he’s been rattled and this season Liverpool haven’t been the same as they should be.”

When asked if he thought Klopp had been rattled by his comments, Agbonlahor added: “Yeah.”

“Mr Mentality Monster, Jurgen, five games away from home without a win this season – can he only get them up for home games at a full Anfield?

“Can he not get his ‘mentality monster’ team up for away games? Because today was shocking from Liverpool. Every player apart from Alisson was below a five out of 10 today.”
