Rebecka Blomqvist staying put

Rebecka Blomqvist vom VfL Wolfsburg freut sich mit geballten Händen und Grinsen im Gesicht.

Sweden international Rebecka Blomqvist will be wearing green and white again next season after extending her VfL Wolfsburg contract, which was due to expire this summer, by two years. The 25-year-old joined the She-Wolves from then Swedish champions Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC in December 2020, going on to make 40 Women’s Bundesliga, 15 UEFA Women’s Champions League and nine DFB Cup appearances for the club. The forward played a key role in VfL’s tenth cup triumph last season, scoring the crucial second goal in a 2-1 victory over SC Freiburg in the final. Blomqvist has also been named in Sweden’s squad for the upcoming World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

“I think I’ve developed very well as a player in my two and a half years in Wolfsburg,” said Blomqvist, reflecting on her time at the club so far.  “I’m in a world-class environment here and I’m certain I can take the next steps in my career at VfL Wolfsburg. The entire team is fantastic and I can hardly wait to compete for further titles.”

Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football at VfL Wolfsburg, is delighted Blomqvist has accepted the She-Wolves’ offer of a new deal: “We always wanted Rebecka to extend her contract with us. Towards the end of last season in particular, she showed just how important she is for us. I believe she still has room to develop and that there’s a lot of potential in her.”
