Back to a Saturday

When the Wolves play host to TSG Hoffenheim in their penultimate home match of the season on Saturday 13 May (kick-off: 15.30 CEST), it will be a welcome return to a more conventional start time. Four of the Green-and-Whites’ last five matches have been played on a Sunday, but now they are getting back to the traditional Bundesliga kick-off time.

Despite the recent loss away to Dortmund, at least one statistic seems to speak in Wolfsburg’s favour – in their last four Saturday games, VfL have picked up three wins and a draw. Home clashes with TSG always produce goals, and the Wolves have never failed to find the back of the net against this particular opponent at the Volkswagen Arena.

•    As is the case with the Green-and-Whites, Hoffenheim have never been relegated from the top flight, with TSG having been promoted in 2008 and remained there ever since.

•    TSG’s 3-1 success at home to Frankfurt last weekend was their ninth win of the season.

•    The Wolves have fashioned something of a reputation as the comeback kings this term, with no other club in the league picking up as many points from losing positions. Niko Kovac’s side managed two wins and six draws when coming from behind.

•    Almost ten years ago now, Maximilian Arnold scored his first goal in the Bundesliga and it came against Hoffenheim. The current VfL captain notched the opener in a 2-2 draw on 13 April 2013, making him the Wolves’ youngest ever Bundesliga goalscorer. In goal for the opposition that day was Koen Casteels, who is now his team-mate.
